Colored Hammond 1592BB boxes can be had from Electro Harmonix for 7 bucks. Sure, my first fuzz tone build was a Maestro fuzz I built from a wrinkled hand drawn schematic in 1966. I use GE HEP transistors and it never worked. Besides the Colorsound 3 knob germanium, the Meyer octavia, the Fuzz Face, the Foxx Tone Machine, I still have my default favorite, a custom made job. It uses a BurrBrown low noise jfet opamp, some jfets, a sliding low pass filter and the usual gain and volume pots.
The cross fed clipping diodes are wired to a 3 way switch, silicon, germanium and asymetrical germanium configurations. It sings and does that "11" thing very well, a talking guitar with a voice.
